The Princess Diet - Lose Weight While Cruising

How to Eat Healthy Foods and Feel Like a Princess Aboard Ship

The Princess Diet uses attitude change to help women lose weight on a cruise ship. It includes: eating fresh fruit and salad and exercising by walking the promenade deck.

The Princess Diet and exercise plan is great for losing weight and feeling healthy and revitalized at sea. While this plan can be used on any cruise ship with a buffet, it works wonders with the fresh tropical fruit found on Princess ships. This diet is neither affiliated with, nor endorsed by, the Princess Cruise Line.

Get in a Healthy Mood

Out on a cruise ship, with the clean crisp air, a woman will find it's the perfect place to unwind and begin life with a newer healthier attitude. Some women gain weight on cruises, but it’s because they don’t have the right attitude. A cruise ship is the finest environment for plotting a new course towards a healthy lifestyle.

Feeling Pampered

About 100 years ago (or less) only very wealthy people had enough money and leisure time to cruise. Women would wear their finery while walking the promenade. Wealthy men would sit on deckchairs, reading novels on their way to London or the South of France.

Times have changed, and now many Americans and Europeans can have that same exhilarating experience. It is important to realize what a generous time we live in when almost anyone can afford the elegance of a transatlantic crossing.

Feeling like a pampered princess is one component of this diet. A princess would not eat food unless it had a wonderful fresh flavor. A princess would rather not be holed up in her room watching someone else having fun on the TV; she would be out in the fresh air strolling around the deck of her yacht, revelling in the beauty surrounding her.

Eating Healthy

It is very easy to eat healthy on any cruise ship. However, this cruise-lifestyle program is called The Princess Diet, because the Princess Cruise Line has so many wonderful foods and the most fabulous fruit outside of a Parisian market.

The best way to avoid overeating at breakfast is to sleep in; however, another way is to eat mostly fruit with a little portion of bread / butter or scrambled eggs.

Cruise Ship Buffet

The trick to losing weight on a cruise ship is to eat at the buffet. Why is that? Well, all those silly fruits and vegetables that are a torture to cut up at home are all ready to go, just begging to be eaten.

Princess Cruise Line fruit is a true delight. Here are some of the great fresh fruits found on most Princess ships:

  • Fresh pineapple (on all ships)
  • Grapes from Spain (in Europe with the seeds)
  • Papaya
  • Strawberries (on occasion)
  • Vine-ripened cantaloupe
  • Honeydew melon
  • Watermelon

And, on a cruise ship, it is the same with the veggies. The salad bar changes from day to day, but the basics are always there.

While a gal is on The Princess Diet, she is allowed to have enough salad dressing to make her feel good about eating vegetables. If a woman gets a piece of fruit or a spoonful of veggies that are not fresh, she should leave that food on the plate and go back for a second try. Princesses do not eat second-rate food.

Cruise Ship Diet

Eat at the buffet for lunch and dinner unless it is a formal night. After dousing one’s hands with Purell, cruise the buffet like a supermarket. Don’t be fooled by the line, it is okay to shop around.

Look for:

  • Meats
  • Fabulous tropical fruits
  • Fresh looking vegetables

The buffet is set up so cruisers will fill up on tasteless, inexpensive carbohydrates. However, don’t be fooled. The bread and butter are usually good, so it makes sense to get one’s carbs from fresh baked bread.

Desserts

The desserts on most cruise ships look delectable but are loaded with various fillers, like cornstarch, and don’t taste like food meant for a princess. It’s fair to take a bite and if it’s great, eat the whole slice and maybe more; on the other hand, if the dessert is mediocre, try having fruit and cheese, just as people in Europe do. (The right ripe fruit is sweeter than any dessert.)

Exercise

The second part of the program is exercise, though cruise ship exercise can be a joy if one has the right attitude.

A woman must imagine that she is on Onassis’ private yacht (or on her own yacht) and then should walk around the promenade deck, with a smile, while passing the commoners inside playing scrabble and bridge. (Of course, a princess always treats everyone with kindness.) To get energized, it really helps to remember that one’s great-grandparents probably never dreamed of taking a luxury sea voyage. So, travelers should savor the salt air and walk a few laps whenever they need to feel like a jet-setting princess.

This semi-haughty attitude is only used when excercising and walking in the lovely sea air. Marching along an oval track (for excercise) just seems to be easier if a female can convince herself that she is special and royal. Wouldn't the Queen of England walk the deck, without complaint, if that were on her schedule? Of course she would.

Check with a doctor before beginning to act like a princess, and if the doc says it's OK, take the stairs, whenever possible, and do the laps as needed. Line dancing counts as much as laps.

The Princess Diet Guarantee:

Unfortunately, there is no guarantee that a woman will lose weight on The Princess Diet. She will, however, feel healthier and more regal upon disembarkation.
