Every school has some kind of dress code. For example, no academic institute will let anyone come to class in a swimsuit. But, some places go overboard in limiting the ways that girls can spice up their outfits.
However, there are three things that are fairly difficult to regulate or to take away from students:
- Eyeglasses
- Hair (and Headbands / Hair Clips)
- Watches
Every girl should realize that the more things they limit, the more fun it is to come up with something new. Something new does not mean something that will get a girl sent home from school. Be subtle. Be cute. Be chic. And, remember, there is always a chance that, someday, this will all make a good book or movie, so keep notes.
Read that dress-code brochure before throwing away back-to-school money and see if anything in this video will help glam that school uniform.
Cute Eyeglasses
Cute colorful fake glasses are in. So, any girl who needs specs should ditch her contact lenses and get some fab eyeglasses because these are the nerdy-chic accessories of the season.
Before saying that glasses can’t be sexy, check out this video. The storyline wouldn’t work without the geek glasses on the beautiful girl.
Cute funky glasses to try:
- Huge bright red frames.
- Round Lady Gaga glasses. Perfect for edgy girls. Try different colors.
- Round John Lennon glasses with just a touch of rose tint. (The glasses in the photo might be too dark and could decrease vision, so go halfway.)
Usually a light tint on eyeglasses is allowed but check with the school before going wild with expensive prescription shades. Cute fake glasses can usually be found at Claires and at tons of online shops.
Hairstyles for School
They can’t make a girl shave her head, can they? Well, hairstyles are usually a good area for self-expression. Here are some fun ideas:
- Take the uniform look all the way with schoolgirl pigtails like the girl (in the blue blazer) in these commercial outtakes.
- Wear the Britney Spears’ Hit-Me-Baby-One-More-Time high braids.
- Try big waves or 1980s style crimping.
- Wear hair up one day and down the next.
What kinds of hair accessories are allowed? Read the school code to see what colors are acceptable. Then cruise the internet for goodies at places like these:
- Forever21.com: Of course.
- Lulus.com: For adorable headbands with bows.
- CharlotteRusse.com: For flower and sequined headbands.
- Zappos.com: For everything.
Watches for School
Even schools that ban jewelry will usually allow watches. They don’t want girls to be late for class, do they? Some institutions will only allow inexpensive watches, but that might not limit what colors and styles can be worn.
Good places to try:
- Fossil.com: Get some funky chunky big watches in different colors. They have boyfriend watches and timepieces that look like chains or bracelets. For a cheaper option, get a convertible watch and with changeable straps.
- Overstock.com: See if they have Jennifer Lopez watches.
- Swatch.com: Check out their cute casual section. The Color the Sky Plastic Watch will go with almost anything. Try wearing two Swatches like teens did in the 80s. These styles are totally retro-fun, but tell mom that they are inexpensive Swiss-made watches that will last “forever”.
Girls should start small and work up to more impressive trendy looks. Hey, try gluing a few rhinestones on those old glasses from 3 years ago (if they have an old, useless prescription) and start a new trend. Someone has to. Read More:
