One of the best ways to know what’s hot for fall is to see what the girly-girl teens are yakking about on their blogs and forums. So, that’s exactly what I checked. Teen forums are a better source of info than Women’s Wear Daily or fashion weeks because real people are talking about buying things with their own money, and not people trying to part you from yours. Here is the best of online gab from the girls.
Just because something is on-trend or must-have does not mean you should rush out and buy it. Fifty-year-olds are going to look rude in thrashed jeans. While, fifteen-year-olds are going to look warped in expensive designer threads. So, let’s use common sense.
Also, back-to-school teens should hold back on some purchases until they see what's trendy at their own schools.
Material Girl Clothing
Madonna and her daughter Lourdes have come out with the Material Girl Clothing Line. All teens know this. The good thing about Material Girl is that it’s reasonably affordable. The bad thing is that it edges toward slutsville, but as long as teens stay away from the strapless bandeau bra top, moms and grandmas should feel comfortable indulging their daughters/granddaughters.
One scary thought is that some adults are skinny enough to fit into these goodies. So, take note of this before grabbing that credit card:
- Madonna Then
- Madonna Now
So, grab your favorite girl child and shop online together. But, Material Girl fashions are for kids. Right?
Material Girl clothes are adorable for teens. Older females can use them for inspiration. And, isn’t it great that Madonna can find a way to make up for the loss of numerous pounds sterling to her evil-ex while allowing her oldest baby to become a superstar.
Fashion Forum
In times of economic hardship for all but the pleasured few, it’s nice to know that girls have been given the green light on mixing summer and autumn pieces.
The "Back To School Fashion Trends 2010" thread on crowdgather.com suggests:
- Layering shorts over black tights: This is an adorable look on teens and twenty-somethings, where the shorts take the place of a skirt. This example is nicely balanced.
- Boots over jeggings: No one over 40, except Tina Turner.
- Boho chic: The bane of designers, the darling of real-life women.
- Plaid: An all-encompassing style that gathers together an unholy alliance of vampire grunge and Gossip Girl. But, it looks cute on everyone.
Yahoo Answers!
On the Yahoo Answers! forum, one girl from NYC gave good answers to the question "Fall back to school fashion trends 2010-2011?" Always google around to see if forum answers sound right.
- Lace: Look for touches of lace, like the camis at ae.com or go big time with Lush Lace Tank (juniors) at Nordstrom.com. This cute oversized tank comes in ivory or black and is a perfect layering piece to update old standbys. (Good for all ages.) $26. The new Charlotte Russe Ruffle Tiered Skirt would be amazing over tights. $24.50
- Heavy Knits: Good for skinny gals of all ages. Heavy women should avoid this style, but anorexics need every pound they can get.
- Some girls say high waisted and some say low waisted, so see what friends are wearing. High-Waisted Shorts are cute for women under 30. Avoid shorts in Europe, with the possible exception of Germany, the Santa Cruz of The Continent.
- Oversized/Draping
- Black Clothing
- Nautical Stripes: Check out the Tommy Bahama Breton sweater.
- Velvet: Women of any age can wear a velvet tee.
- Turtlenecks: Turtlenecks are something to love or avoid depending upon body type. Short necks definitely need something pink or flesh-toned. Wear these tops under dresses or look for sexy turtlenecks with cutouts.
- Patchwork: Tie Dye Patchwork Handbag at Amazon.com Patchwork works for anyone of any age. Plus it goes with everything.
- Graphic Prints: Any top by Betsey Johnson, Queen of Ageless Hip
- Nude Color: Nude shoes give the illusion of longer legs.
- Crop Tops: Oh no, not this again. Schools will expect crop tops to be part of a layering system.
- Leather: Leather has been around for centuries, so women who feel they should have 200 candles on their cakes will love the feel of soft leather jackets. Young chickadees should browse leather jackets at ShopBop.com for ideas.
Another Teen Forum Answer
Here are a few fall fashion suggestions made by a girl named Rosa:
- Flared Wide-Leg Pants
- Animal Prints: Leopard prints are timeless and ageless. No neons over 40, unless DVF.
- Faux Fur
- Big Prints
- Shearling Jackets: These are gorgeous on anyone tall enough to be a model.
- Ankle Boots: Booties and high-heeled boots are easier to walk in than other heels because they stabilize the ankle. Booties rock.
- Over-the-Knee and Slouch Boots: Both are cute for teens and anyone under 35. Older females should never wear over-the-knee boots.
- Military Jackets: Most skinny chicks can wear these. Others might prefer Victorian-Gothic styles.
- Over-the-Knee and Knee Socks: Best for women and girls who know Taylor Momsen’s middle name.
- Cropped Denim
- Lady-Like Look ala Louis Vuitton: No dirndls for anyone who cannot yodel. This is scary stuff.
- Equestrian Chic: It’s so Blair Waldorf.
The same advice holds true for 12-year-olds as for 60-year-olds: Only wear a shirt, a dress, or anything if it looks good on you. It’s okay to send online purchases back. That’s why they give you the sticky return label. More Articles:
