Great toys teach creativity...Forget bouncing dolls with batteries and creatures that do all the thinking for you. Teach your child mastery, not boredom!

Who’s got time for Christmas shopping? No one I know. How about you? So, here are some toys that come highly rated and I want you to see that you really don't need another video game or battery powered doll. Here are some of the best Christmas gifts 2010 for kids.

I have always loved educational toys more than gadgets that were based on lame-brained children’s shows. And, I have lived long enough to see that I was right. My children are unique and highly-functioning adults because I didn’t park them in from of the tube. Take my advice and have your child spend time with 3-dimentional toys and actual people, not just video games and flat-screen friends.

Toys for 3 Year Olds: These are toys that will help your child learn to master his or her world. Why would you want a silly doll that bounces or a mouse that dances...if you can't afford tons of gifts? Buy toys that teach your child imagination and creativity!

Some of these toys are for little babies, and some are for kids who are preschoolers. If you are a grandma you should know what kids like. And, I think it’s important for grandparents to spend time with the little midgets, too.

If you are a grandfather of a little girl, I would like to help you get to know your little one. You should rejoice in the fact that you have lived long enough to see your grandchild and you should play dolls with her. She will remember those times long after she’s grown and out of college.

Fathers need the same advice. Girls who spend time with their fathers have higher IQs than girls whose fathers sit and watch football. TV is evil and will rob you of your life.

Christmas Gifts 2010 for Kids - Toys for Toddler Boys

Try to imagine different ways that your child will use each toy:

  • Mini Automoblox ($10): Your child or grandchild will learn that not all toys come preprogrammed. If you can afford the C9R, I think the large Automoblox is easier for smaller tots. Best for boys 2 or 3. Check choking hazard.
  • Morphibian Gator RC: I don't usually recommend remote controlled toys but this little car/boat makes me laugh. Best for boys aged 3.
  • Name Train: Made for children over 3, but a favorite of 2 year old boys. Choking hazard, use common sense. Each car is bought separately
  • MAKE YOUR OWN MONSTER PUPPET: By Melissa and Doug. Best for 3 year old boys and parents.
  • Magnetic Mighty Mind: Like a Tanagram. Best for 3 year old boys.
  • Hexbug Robotic Bug: Best for boys 3-7 and dads.
  • Reptangles: These turtles snap together into geometric shapes or kids can just create structures. Best for boys aged 4-6. .
  • Perplexus: It's a mind-blowing maze. Best for boys aged 3-10.
  • Lincoln Logs or any log building set. You can follow the directions or just have fun, depending on your child's age. Best for boys aged 3-5...and dads.
  • Strider Running Bike: Its a coasting bike, that's lower to the ground, so kids can push rather than pedal. Think scooter-like bike. Best for boys aged 2.
  • Farm Sound Blocks: Best for boys aged 1-2.
  • My Tent with Zippered Mesh Front: Best for boys aged 3.

Toys for Toddler Girls

  • Nina Ballerina Magnetic Dress-Up: Best for 3 year old girls.
  • Snuggle Pods: Best for girls aged 1-2. These are little dolls with little beds.
  • Shape Model and Mold Play Set: By Melissa and Doug. Best for girls aged 2-3. Like Playdough.
  • Flower Fairies: These are brightly colored plastic toys about 4" tall. Best for 4-6 year old girls. You can start with one or two. Most pieces are approximately $8.
  • Alex Tub Fashion: Best for girls aged 3. Like paper dolls for the bathtub.
  • Wood Stringing Beads by Melissa & Doug: Best for girls aged 4, or an older 3 year old.

Best Toys for Boys or Girls

  • Bilibo: Best for 2 year old boys and girls
  • Shape Sorting Cube by Melissa & Doug: Best for boys or girls aged 1.
  • Ybike Riding Toy: Best for girls and boys aged 2.
  • Monster Bowling: Best for boys and girls 2 years old.
  • Magna-Tiles Clear Colors: Best for boys aged 2-6, good for 4 year old girls.

I know it's a bit overwhelming, but I think that parents are intuitively attracted to the right toy that is perfect for his or her child.

Veronica Bright :
Very nice article, sans the implied insults to parents who have bought their children those "stupid" and "ghetto" toys.

Veronica,

It's not an insult to you or any parent. Why do you think I know so much about those toys that I don't recommend. Lots and lots of wasted money $$$$. I'm trying to save you money and help you find better toys. I have bought lots of stupid, ghetto toys.

I am trying to get people's attention. I am trying to help the kids. That's my mission in life...and I want you, and all of my readers, to learn from my ghastly and expensive mistakes. Love and Peace. (If enough of you complain, I will change my methods.)

I applaud you for speaking out about the brainless, and yes, stupid, toys and entertainment out there, shoved at our children, and eagerly gobbled up by us parents who want to give our children everything the world has for them, and everything that every other child wants. Living in fear that ours won't be the smartest because they didn't get the newest electronic toddler computer. Good for you, and keep up the great work! I am right there, having once bought the newest, but now (on child #7) I have tossed the plastic and the TV, and we learn about our world, while living in it, speaking and interacting with REAL friends, not "web-friends".
