Here are some of the best mail catalogs and online catalogs for hip Boomer Chicks. Try Soft Surroundings (rave reviews), Coldwater Creek, Drapers & Damon (for cruise wear), The Territory Ahead, and Casual Living (for some trippy little things).
Here are just a few of the catalogs that every Boomer Chick should be getting in the mail.
Boomer Style
The trick to being an iconic Boomer Chick is to “dress your age” without dressing like an old granny. It’s probably easier to look great if one lives in NYC or San Francisco, but there are a lot of Sisters of the Boomerhood who live off in the middle of heck-knows-where. Are these poor souls supposed to dress well from Walmart alone? Heck no.
Hey, no one would say that Walmart doesn’t sell some gosh-dang great tee shirts, hats, and other tidbits, but it ain’t Paris, Baby. (Full disclosure, author has one Walmart tee shirt style in 4 different colors.)
Online Shopping
Check out these great online catalogs and mail catalogs. Once a Boomer is on the list, she’ll get oodles of fun catalogs in the mail. It’s almost like getting free magazines. And, it’s so much easier to order online than to drive to some snooty mall where all the clerks are about 12 years old.
Save Money
A case can be made that it’s cheaper to shop online catalogs and online sites, because a gal finds exactly what she needs without all those pesky, finance-threatening impulse purchases.
So, Boomer Chicks need to sign up for some of these catalogs:
Soft Surroundings
Soft Surroundings has great stuff that actually fits Boomer Chicks’ bodies. Almost everything in this catalog is stretchy and well made. And best of all, this catalog has clothing that looks good enough to wear to Europe, and that’s the true test of clothing.
Europe worthy in latest catalog:
- Arcadia Sweater (pack pointelle sleeves carefully)
- Tatiana Top
- Londoner Sweater Coat
- Silk Meryl Shirt and Cami
- Silk Pasha Cardigan (to jazz up plain Jane dresses for evening)
- Denim Stretch Legging
- Ballerina Tee (No grown woman should go without this top. It is almost universally flattering.)
This catalog has so many great pieces. All Boomer Chicks should cruise the Soft Surroundings website regularly for their “On Sale” section. Hey, it’s a recession out there.
Coldwater Creek
Coldwater Creek is a good catalog for travelers and homebodies, alike. While, not quite as foolproof as Soft Surroundings, Coldwater Creek has lots of goodies that a gal will wear over and over for years. Also, prices are usually pretty good here.
Europe worthy in current catalog:
- Paisley Reversible Skirt: Reverses to a black lace skirt.
- Essential Cross Body Bag (On sale.)
- Sleeveless Ponte Dress (This little black dress goes anywhere: Greece, Idaho, a cruise to Buenos Aires, or down to the local supermarket.)
Casual Living
This is a good catalog to find little odds and ends. Prices on pant sets can keep a gal in the black and not pull her down into frumpy-ville.
- Drawstring Boot (Yes. These are just like the flat boots seen all over Italy.)
- Crossover Striped Sweater ( Stripes were everywhere in Europe.)
- Their short tie-front shrugs are perfect for stashing in a purse to ward off hotel (or office) air conditioning.
Drapers & Damons
Sometimes maligned as overly conservative old-lady wear, this catalog offers some very happy surprises:
- Signature Knit Tank Dress (Take this and the shrug from Casual Living and a gal is ready to hop a plane to anywhere south of Alaska.)
- The nautical jogging suits are perfect as stylin' cruise wear. Some have nice crisp striped tees.
- Velvet Charmed Kimono, worn over anything black, is a cruising groove for sailing gals of any age. Just add champagne.
The Territory Ahead
The Territory Ahead is ostensibly for travel wear, though in reality “travel wear” really just means comfy clothes. This stuff is mostly for casual Boomers, but look at these:
- Matisse Nicky Moccasin Boots (Similar to those seen on slender elegant well-heeled Euro-gals.)
- New Wrap Artist Knit Dress (Gals in Rome wore tops that tied in back for a perfect fit.)
There are many more “mail catalogs” to check out and, of course, there are lots of fabulous online catalogs, but signing up for a couple of these is a great place to start. Boomer women need not look like grannies.
